Watch: Asir region rockslide as Saudi Arabia's landscapes are altered by severe rainfall

Jazan's record rainfall hits ten-year highs amidst the peculiar summer weather in the kingdom.

Dubai: This summer, Saudi Arabia is experiencing an unusual meteorological phenomenon, with numerous locations being covered with moderate to heavy rainfall, along with hailstorms and strong winds.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to go outside by the gorgeous landscapes created by the weather, which is full of mist and vivid foliage.

On Friday, the extraordinary weather reached its peak in Jazan, where the city had the most rainfall in ten years—184mm—in a single day. This exceeded the previous high of 182 mm, which was recorded in Jeddah in 2022.

The amount of rain caused enough damage to cause school timetable adjustments and a transfer of in-person classes to online learning environments in the impacted areas.

To handle the current situation, the Jazan Municipality has mobilized a massive emergency response that includes 981 persons and a range of equipment.

These staff are constantly monitoring and addressing concerns related to water accumulation.

The rainfall's significance, according to the National Meteorological Centre, suggests that the kingdom's and the world's climate is changing.

In the Asir region, a significant route was closed by a spectacular rockslide that occurred due to excessive rainfall.

Social media users shared a video demonstrating the size of the rock collapse in Wadi Aslan, which caused traffic disruptions and required workers to move quickly to clean the debris and get traffic back to normal.

These weather-related occurrences, which also happen to correspond with the emergence of the "Suhail Star," indicate a change in the seasons. They bring in shorter days and colder nights as the Arabian Peninsula's prime summer season comes to an end.
