On the same day, Mariah Carey's sister and mother pass away.

Over the weekend, Mariah Carey, a singer from the US, released a statement stating that her mother Patricia and sister Alison passed away on the same day.

Carey stated on Monday, "I lost my mother this past weekend, and it broke my heart." "Unfortunately, my sister passed away on the same day due to a tragic turn of events.”

The Grammy-winning singer requested anonymity, stating that she felt fortunate to have seen her mother the week before she passed away.

She did not elaborate on the reason of death of either woman.

Patricia, an Irish-American voice instructor and opera singer, passed away at the age of 87.

The five-time Grammy Award winner singer Mariah Carey discussed her difficult relationship with her mother in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, stating that it had left her feeling "so much pain and confusion."

Carey, 55, said that rivalry had separated them. Professional enviousness "comes with the territory of success, but when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful" , she stated.

In the dedication, she wrote, "To Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could," expressing her profound love for her mother. I shall always love you to the best of my ability.

The singer stated that she had "definitely" been impacted by her mother's criticism when she was growing up in a 2022 interview with Gayle King.

She went on to say that she had always given her mother credit for introducing her to music.

Prior to her passing, Carey's sister Alison, 63, was getting hospice care, a friend told the Times Union, a New York State newspaper. The friend did not give a reason for the passing.

The two sisters' relationship was likewise complicated.

Being cut off from both Alison and her brother Morgan, Carey said in her memoir that it was "emotionally and physically safer for me to not have any contact."

After the memoir was published, Alison sued Carey for $1.2 million (£909,780) for "immense emotional distress" and labeling the suit "vindictive."
At the age of 72, the singer's father, Alfred, passed away from cancer in 2002.
Carey is considered one of the world's most successful vocalists.

The best-selling Christmas song by a female artist ever is her holiday single, All I Want For Christmas Is You.

She has sold over 220 million records worldwide, set a record for the most number-one singles by a solo artist on the Billboard Hot 100 with 19, and was a judge on the reality show American Idol.
