The proposal to prolong the visa exemption policy is moving forward, according to a statement issued by Sandiaga Uno, the minister of tourism. The minister went on to say that before the elections in October 2024, the policy should be finalised.

The minister of tourism has also stated that by enabling more travellers, the visa exemption programme seeks to strengthen the local economy. More "quality tourist arrivals, people who stay longer and spend more on the local economy" are what the administration is hoping to see.
