RIYADH: On May 15, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University's College of Languages in Riyadh will stage a conference with the theme "Translating the Saudi identity through other languages and cultures."

Under the theme "We translate our identity," the event is being sponsored by Saudi Education Minister Yousef Al-Benyan and will be held at the Department of Conferences and Seminars.

As per the Saudi Press Agency, the main objective is to disseminate the Kingdom's literary, historical, cultural, and intellectual legacy to a worldwide readership.

Along with encouraging international recognition and highlighting the Kingdom's cultural effect, the role of translation in presenting a favourable picture of the Kingdom will also be highlighted.

Encouraging Saudis to adapt these ideas into other languages and cultures is one of the conference's main goals, which is to support Islamic values and national identity in support of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

Students at universities will be placed in a competitive setting that will help them discover their identity through many languages and cultures.

Scholars and fans interested in Saudi identity and how it translates to other cultures will be drawn to the conference. Participants will include students who specialise in national identity and translation as well as representatives from ministries, agencies, and businesses that are involved in translating Saudi identity.

The conference will feature six scientific sessions and workshops in addition to topic-related displays and cultural activities. A number of topics will be covered in the sessions, such as "National identity in film translation," "Saudi family identity," "Linguistic communication," "The role of translation and publishing in sharing the Saudi identity with the world," and "Translating national heritage into global languages."

The workshops during the conference will cover a variety of subjects, one of which is how to translate Saudi identity in the travel industry.

As part of its commitment to Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University's 2025 strategic goals, the College of Languages organised the event.
