LONDON (Reuters) -In her first public statement since undergoing stomach surgery in January, Kate, the Princess of Wales of Britain, thanked the public on Sunday for their support and shared a photo of herself with her three kids.

Her comments could help to allay some of the wild conjecture and rumors that have been circulating on social media in recent weeks over the princess's health. The princess hasn't been seen in public since Christmas Day.

Kate, 42, was pictured smiling and appearing well in the snap, which was taken by her husband, Prince William, the heir apparent, with Princess Charlotte children Princes George and Louis also present.

Kate posted on X, saying, "I appreciate all of your well wishes and ongoing support over the past two months." "Wishing everyone a Happy Mother's Day."

In Britain, Mother's Day is observed on Sunday. The family resides in Windsor, where the portrait was taken earlier this week, according to her Kensington Palace office.

Following surgery in January for an undisclosed, non-cancerous ailment, Kate was hospitalized for two weeks. She hasn't been spotted in public since, and according to Kensington Palace, she won't probably be back on the job until after Easter, which is at the end of this month.

The royal family of Britain typically keeps all medical matters private and does not provide specifics about their ailments. However, the princess's prolonged absence has raised concerns about her health. Normally, she is a cheerful sight at charity functions and other engagements.

Earlier this month, her administration issued a statement restating that it will only be offering "significant updates" regarding her recuperation.

KING CHARLES' HEALTH

The day Kate had surgery, palace authorities announced that 75-year-old King Charles would also be admitted to the hospital for treatment of an enlarged prostate.

The king's medical staff determined that he had an unidentified type of cancer while he was in the hospital. The monarch has been photographed performing some of his official duties as head of state, but he has had to postpone his public appearances while undergoing treatment.

In observance of Mother's Day, Buckingham Palace shared a photo of Charles holding his late mother Queen Elizabeth's hand. Queen Elizabeth passed away in September 2022 at the age of 96.

The note that went with it wrote, "Wishing all Mothers, and those who are missing their Mums today, a peaceful Mothering Sunday."
