Metal music is crucial to Saudi Arabia's cultural rebirth.

JEDDAH: A sizable audience cheered and sang along with Saudi metal band Immortal Pain during their loud and energetic performance at Comic Con Arabia in Jeddah.

The band performed for the second time at the event on Friday night. Since late 2005, they have been a part of the rock and metal scene, initially consisting of two members and then expanding to two.

Lead guitarist Rasheed Attar and rhythm guitarist Emad Ashoor formed the band together, according to a prior interview with Arab News. Later, bassist Anan Al-Sabban and drummer Moayad Al-Shammari joined the group, and they just inked a deal with Saudi record label Wall of Sound: Dark Mode.

The band, located in Jeddah, has been touring the Kingdom with mini-concerts. In addition, they have published original music, and they are now working on future releases for Saudi, Arab, and global audiences.

The members of the group gave insight into the dynamics of the group and how they collaborate to create their songs and music videos, even though they had previously spoken to Arab News about their origins.

Inspiration is the starting point for everything.

Al-Shammari, the percussionist, said, "The four of us get together, talk about our latest encounters in life and how we felt." Then, we use music to communicate everything. We allow our instruments to do the talking.

Al-Shammari commented, "One day, I was passing by a construction site, and the sounds of wrecking and drilling inspired me somehow and I made a song based on the noise of the construction site." This is just one example of the strange places or events that might inspire.

Ashoor takes over the next phase of crafting the lyrics because he is talented with a poetic sense.

They have been composing lyrics in English so far, but they all expressed that they were willing to try writing in Arabic and that they were excited to try new things and see their music develop.

The four of us get together and discuss our most recent experiences and feelings. We then use music to express everything. We allow our instruments to do the talking.

After the words are written, they select a melody and order the song, choosing which riff to play first and which to play later. The last track to be recorded is the lyrics.

The four admitted that getting started in their career was challenging because metal music was not well-liked in their hometown and was viewed as a Western genre. They mentioned that even though their families are encouraging, it was difficult for them to start getting attention.

From a few of people to several dozen, their fanbase grew over time, and by the time they performed at Comic Con both this year and last, they had approximately 1,000 music enthusiasts.

"In contrast to what Gene Simmons and other celebrities like KISS may believe, rock and metal are both on the upswing. When asked about the metal scene in the Kingdom, bassist Al-Sabban remarked, "They can go ahead and retire if it's getting too loud."

He said that Metallica would be performing in the Kingdom the following week, saying, "But the local and global scenes are growing." "It will undoubtedly be bigger and better when Saudi Arabia gets involved, as we all know."

Fans from all throughout the Middle East and North Africa snapped up tickets to see the venerable metal band when MDLBeast revealed that Metallica will be playing in Saudi Arabia.

Additionally, Immortal Pain revealed exclusively to Arab News that they will formally begin recording their debut album early in 2019 after previously only releasing singles. They also disclosed that they will go on a MENA tour in 2024, performing live in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and the Kingdom.

Al-Shammari stated with pride that they have also been invited to play in Germany. Although there is no confirmation as of yet, they are optimistic that everything will work out and they will have a global performance.
