Riyadh: Saudi Arabia's Makkah Route project, which expedites travel and entry procedures for guests from partner nations, is helping an increasing number of Hajj pilgrims.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the program has helped 617,756 Hajj pilgrims from Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkiye, and the Ivory Coast so far.

The program, which was introduced in 2019 in nations with a majority of Muslims, enables pilgrims to complete all visa, customs, and health formalities at the airport where they originated, saving hours of waiting both before and after arriving in the Kingdom.

The method starts with the issuance of electronic visas and the gathering of personal data, and it ends with expedited passport procedures prior to departure.

Each pilgrim's flight details and place of residence are marked with stickers that are attached to their passports and bags. A trained crew operating under the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's supervision performs the tagging service.

The luggage is brought to pilgrim accommodations after being received by teams at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah.

The General Directorate of Passports, the Pilgrim Experience Program, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, the Saudi Data and AI Authority, and the Ministry of Interior work together to implement the Makkah Route initiative.
