RIYADH: With an extensive schedule of top-notch events and attractions, Tantora's Winter, the area's premier festival celebrating culture, art, and music, runs through January 27.

Starting on December 1 and lasting for ten nights, AlUla Old Town will be transformed into a venue for concerts, projection shows, cultural exhibits, and heritage experiences as part of the Tantora Celebration, which kicks off the festival.

Musical encounters

The World of AlUla event, which runs through January 21 and celebrates the richness of the Arabic language, will include presentations, seminars, displays, and live performances. The program will examine the various aspects of Arabic and how it has influenced literature, music, art, and culture.

The workshops of The Word of AlUla will take place in two different locations: the lively Al-Jadidah Arts District and the picturesque Daimumah Oasis.

Leading musicians from the Egyptian choir ensemble Rouh Al-Sharq will play at the Shorfat Al-Jadidah event on December 27 and 28. Balconies along Incense Road will be turned into stages for this event, with performers entertaining the crowd below.

On December 29, Majida El-Roumi, a legendary singer from Lebanon, will perform at Maraya. Since the 1970s, El-Roumi has been a well-known figure in the music industry, her record containing religious hymns, patriotic anthems, Lebanese folk songs, and classic Arab classics.

Poetry lovers shouldn't miss the Poet's Night on January 5, which will feature a varied cast of writers and singers.

On January 12, AlUla Moments will present Abadi Al-Johar at Maraya Concert Hall. Since starting his musical career in 1968, the Saudi Arabian vocalist has created almost 50 albums, making him one of the most well-known Khaleeji singers in the Gulf.

On January 18, a candlelight performance featuring inventive stage design and the grace of classical music will take place at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra. Ludovico Einaudi, a composer and pianist, will perform at the Hegra Candlelit Classic with a number of Saudi musicians.

On January 19, the Swiss Orchestra will play live at Mayara. Since making its debut in 2018, the Swiss Orchestra has wowed audiences all over the world with performances of well-known pieces by composers like Beethoven and Mozart.

Festival of Citrus

At the height of the harvest season, on January 5 and 6, as well as January 12 and 13, is the much-anticipated AlUla Citrus Festival. In addition to local family-run shops selling citrus-based products like jams and soaps, visitors can purchase directly from farmers.

An estimated 15,000 tons of citrus fruits are produced in AlUla each year, or 30% of the total produced in the Kingdom. Across 800 hectares, 4,700 farms in the governorate are home to nearly 200,000 trees.

Purchasing

The Tafoni Store in the Al-Jadidah Arts District will be open from January 9 to February 25 for anyone wishing to shop for traditional goods. It will feature a variety of products from local and regional designers that sell clothing, accessories, beauty products, and home and leisure things.

Athletics

On January 11 and 12, athletes of all skill levels will have the opportunity to put their strength to the test for the second year in a row at the AlUla Trail Race.

A variety of races, such as the 100 km Sharaan Trail, 50 km Hegra Trail, half marathon Elephant Rock Trail, 10 km Oasis Trail, and 1.4 km kids’ run, will provide runners a chance to enjoy the scenery of the ancient city.

From January 17–20, AlUla will host the Richard Mille Desert Polo event at the Equestrian Village. Over the course of four days, eight teams will play a series of matches.
