Yoon Suk Yeol, the president of South Korea, was present when they were awarded.

In recognition of the K-Pop group BLACKPINK'S efforts to combat climate change, King Charles awarded them medals honouring them as honorary Members of the Order of the British Empire on Wednesday. During South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol's state visit to the UK, the band members, Roseanne Park (Rose), Jennie Kim, Jisoo Kim, and Lalisa Manoban (Lisa), received their awards in front of him.

According to Buckingham Palace, they received this esteemed honour in appreciation for their work as COP26 Advocates for the 2021 United Nations climate summit in Glasgow. As he awarded the awards, the band members engaged in conversation, jokes, and picture ops with the British monarch. The MBEs were given out in Buckingham Palace's 1844 Room.

The description of the video that the Royal family published said, "The King, joined by The President and First Lady of the Republic of Korea, has welcomed special guests @blackpinkofficial to Buckingham Palace, as they are awarded Honorary MBEs."

"Seeing Korea's younger generation embrace the cause is especially inspiring," King Charles said during the ceremony, praising the band. I commend Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé—better known as BLACKPINK—for their part in spreading awareness of environmental sustainability to a global audience while serving as COP 26 ambassadors for the United Kingdom and later as supporters of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

In addition, he made light of the band, remarking, "It's amazing you're still talking to each other after all these years." He continued, "I hope I shall be able to see you perform live at some point."

In addition to the prizes, the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards military band performed BLACKPINK's songs on the palace forecourt during the guard change. The description for the video read, "We play Blackpink on Wednesdays."

The Spice Girls were the final female group to be invited to the palace to have a visit with Charles in 1997.

Blackpink broke records and became the most subscribed music artists on YouTube after making their debut in 2016. They have gone on to become one of the most successful girl groups in the world. Blackpink has almost 55 million Instagram followers, indicating the size of their following base.
