Jakarta's TEMPO.CO One of the nations designated by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to take the lead in bringing an end to the conflict in Gaza is Indonesia.

In addition to Indonesia, the OIC leaders mandated Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Nigeria to assist in initiating a political process aimed at achieving peace between Israel and Palestine through a resolution passed following the extraordinary summit held in Riyadh on Saturday, November 11, 2023.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated in a written statement following her attendance at the OIC Summit that "Paragraph 11 (in the resolution) is an acknowledgment from the OIC of Indonesia's activeness or active contribution which continues to try to resolve the Palestinian problem, especially recently the situation in Gaza."

Retno claims that the resolution includes 31 OIC sentiments that call for an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza in a firm and severe manner.

Leaders of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), including President Jokowi, have denounced Israel's crimes in Gaza and have called on the UN Security Council to take action and draft a resolution emphasizing the need to uphold international law, allow relief to enter the region, and put an immediate stop to the atrocities.

The forced relocation of 1.5 million Palestinians from north to south Gaza, which is prohibited by the Fourth Geneva Convention, is likewise denounced by the OIC.

"The OIC also urges the UN Security Council to issue a resolution to condemn Israel's destruction of hospitals in Gaza," Retno stated.

Concurrent with the Arab League Summit was the OIC Extraordinary Summit over the Gaza issue.

The summit is thought to be crucial for demonstrating the OIC's solidarity and for coming up with new initiatives to put an immediate stop to Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people.
